Preventing Pathogens in Agricultural Water Use Systems in the Environment

Welcome to Preventing Pathogens in Agricultural water Use Systems in the Environment or PAUSE! Funded by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) through the Specialty Crop Research Initiative (SCRI) program, our team is dedicated to supporting leafy green growers by providing them with valuable guidance and practical tools for effective production water treatment. Through stakeholder-driven research, we investigate the various factors that affect the efficacy of commonly used water treatment sanitizers in reducing potentially harmful pathogens in agricultural water. We also strive to evaluate the potential long-term implications of sustained sanitizer use on naturally occurring microbes in water, soils, and leafy green products.
